According to a report from TMZ.com, Leslie Jones, the Ghostbusters alum, is leaving her job on Saturday Night Live after approximately five seasons. While she’s saying “goodbye” to that part of her life, thus far, the star has a lot of other options in Hollywood.
Sources who spoke with the outlet claimed that Leslie won’t be coming back for the 45th season of SNL, and it’s a decision she made on her own. Reportedly, Jones’ time on SNL proved crucial to her success in Hollywood and the entertainment industry.
Currently, she’s got a key role in the Eddie Murphy movie, Coming 2 America, the sequel to the 1980s film that earned hundreds of millions, cementing Eddie’s status as a Hollywood mainstay. Coincidentally, Eddie Murphy will host SNL this season, but Leslie won’t be there for it.
Moreover, reports indicate that Leslie also got her hands on a Netflix deal for a brand new comedy special, and she also has a few other film projects in the works as well. As it was mentioned in passing above, Leslie had a role in the Ghostbusters movie.
According to a report from The Wrap, Leslie was furious when it was revealed the makers of the next Ghostbusters flick were going to ignore the plotline of the previous movie starring Leslie Jones and Kristen Wiig, among others.
Reported back in January of 2019, Leslie took to her Twitter following Sony’s announcement that they would ignore the 2016 female-starred revival. She wrote in a tweet that it was “so insulting,” and it was something that Donald “Trump would do.”
The revival of the Ghostbusters movie was co-written by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan and will be a direct sequel to the original which came out in 1984, directed by his father, Ivan Reitman. Ivan was the director for the sequel in 1989 as well starring Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis.
