Alan Alda becomes the 55th recipient of the SAG Lifetime Achievement award on Sunday’s SAG Awards and Tom Hanks will present him with the honor. Though the SAG Awards are up against the live musical RENT, many people have expressed excitement at watching the show live. There will be a silver carpet in honor of it being the 25th award show and Megan Mullally will host.

Co-ambassadors include Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) and Harry Shum Jr. (Shadowhunters). With 30 celebrity presenters, many are excited to see Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, Rami Malek, and more take the stage, but social media has revealed that television fans are looking forward to seeing Alan Alda celebrated.

SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris released a statement regarding Alan Alda’s selection as the winner.

“It is an honor and privilege to announce that our SAG Life Achievement Award will be presented to the fabulous Alan Alda. He is an artist whose body of work is a testament to the craft and the magic of our business. His ability to make us laugh, to think and to feel is extraordinary. From theater to television, movies, and new media Alan’s dedication and talent are exceeded only by his contributions to a just and caring society.”

Tom Hanks was the first man to win the SAG Award for best male actor. He won for his role as Forrest Gump.

Alan Alda and Tom Hanks aren’t strangers and previously worked together. Alda, at 82-years-old, hasn’t just had a successful career in television, film, the theater, and communications, but continues working. Hanks and Alda worked together in Bridge of Spies as recently as 2015.

Alan Alda spoke about Tom Hanks presenting him with the award on his official Twitter account. In fact, he mentioned it several times and repeatedly thanked Tom Hanks. In one tweet,  he addressed Hanks directly and thanked him. Tom Hanks stated the following.

“I’m so grateful to Tom Hanks. What a generous thing to do. I’m really touched. Thanks, .@tomhanks.”

Alda also expressed his gratitude towards Hank for honoring him with the presentation.

There’s no question that Alan Alda’s special honor is one of the biggest highlights of Sunday’s award show.
